우리는 그동안 에스라의 영도 하에 진행되었던 제 2차 포로 귀환 이후의 유다 백성의 영적인 재건 과정을 들여다 보았습니다. 
이제 느헤미야의 영도 하에 이루어진 제 3차 포로 귀환의 과정을 이어서 읽게 되는데, 이 기록들에는 백성의 믿음과 바탕들이 좀 더 공동체적으로 세워져가는 과정이 담겨 있습니다. 

본디, 에스라서와 느헤미야서는 히브리 성경에서는 하나의 두루마리였습니다. 
따라서 영적 재건을 위하여 힘썼던 이 두 지도자들의 행보와 그리고 그들의 지도를 받았던 백성들의 믿음과 삶이 재건되는 모습은 하나로 이어져서 우리가 따라가야 할 과정이 됩니다.
